Brake Function of an Accumulator

In vehicle braking systems (especially hydraulic or hydro-pneumatic brakes), an accumulator plays several important roles:sion systems.

How It Works in Brakes

1. The hydraulic pump charges the accumulator with pressurized fluid (and nitrogen gas).

2. When you press the brake pedal, the system can draw fluid from both the pump and the accumulator.

3. If the pump fails, the stored energy in the accumulator still provides enough pressure for several brake applications (emergency braking).
