The gas valve (also called charging valve or gas charging valve) is the small valve located on the gas side of a bladder, piston, or diaphragm accumulator.

Main function

• Allows the accumulator to be pre-charged with nitrogen gas to the correct pressure.

• Provides a sealed connection point for a charging kit (gauge + hose) so technicians can check or adjust the nitrogen pre-charge pressure.

• Keeps the nitrogen gas sealed inside the accumulator during normal operation.

Typical location

• On bladder accumulators: usually at the top (gas end) of the steel shell.

• It is often protected by a protective cap.

Important notes

• Only dry nitrogen should be used for charging (never air or oxygen).

• Correct pre-charge pressure is critical for the accumulator to work properly.

• The valve must remain tightly closed and leak-free; a leaking gas valve will cause the accumulator to lose its charge and stop functioning.

In short: the gas valve is the access point used to fill and maintain the nitrogen pressure that makes the accumulator work.
